The pandemic has rewired perspectives on a lot of things — including, for many of us, how we lead.
At the 2020 Vanguard Forum for Life Sciences Leaders in October, we asked Forum Chair Cameron Durrant — who’s also CEO and Board Chairman of Humanigen — how COVID has impacted his leadership. He talked about his increased awareness of our fragility, and a new sense of the importance of facing up to hardship, in one's own life as well as the lives of others:
Struggle isn’t necessarily something that happens to you. If you can adopt the perspective that it happens for you, if you can honor the struggle, and learn to see it as a necessary, important and positive part of the journey — that allowed me to have much more peace with the struggle.
I don’t actually wish for things to be easier. I actually wish for me to be better.
